Match Preview

Bayern Munich will have the best chance possible to return to winning ways on Sunday afternoon when they play host to the rock-bottomed Greuther Furth in Bundesliga Matchday No 23.

The Bavarians shockingly fell 4-2 away at Bochum last weekend, conceding as many as four first-half goals on the occasion.

You will rarely see nine-successive Bundesliga champions conceding three goals in a game, let alone four in the first half. The scenario was even more shocking because the likes of Bochum were at the opposite end of the pitch.

This loss certainly affected the team’s mood in the dressing room as Bayern Munich went on to barely avoid a defeat in mid-week’s UEFA Champions League game, playing only a 1-1 draw away at Salzburg in the first leg of the last 16 round of the elite continental competition.

Julian Nagelsmann’s troops will now be highly motivated to get back on winning track and there are no more desirable rivals for them than Greutrher Furth at this point.

The visitors are by far the worst team in the top flight of German football. They did win two of the last three Bundesliga games to earn at least some glimmer of hope in their battle for avoiding relegation, but they will still travel to Allianz Arena with a horrendous record on travels around their necks.

Furth took only one point from eleven league games on the road this term, conceding as many as 40 goals in the process.

Bayern Munich vs Greuther Furth Head-to-head

  • This will only be the fifth head to head clash between the two teams.
  • Bayern Munich have easily won each of the previous four ties, each time by at least two goals difference.
  • The run includes this season’s 1-3 victory for the Bavarians at Sportpark Ronhof Thomas Sommer.

Bayern Munich vs Greuther Furth Prediction

Furth have shipped at least three goals in seven of the last eight away matches in Bundesliga. You will rarely find such a dreadful record in any European league.

The fact they are up against by far the deadliest attacking line in the country, who are also highly motivated to rebound from recent slip-ups, only makes matters worse for the visitors here. We would not be surprised to see Bayern Munich netting five or more goals on Saturday.
