Klopp-Guardiola rivalry to continue as Pep agrees new Man City deal ahead of Haaland's arrival

A few days ago, Jurgen Klopp officially signed a new Liverpool deal which will extend his time in the Premier League until 2026. Now, according to reports out of the UK, Pep Guardiola looks to do the same at Manchester City as the pair are set to maintain their rivalry in the English top-flight for years to come.

According to the Sun, the Spanish tactician has agreed a deal in principle to extend his reign at the Etihad Stadium until 2025, with his current contract set to expire in only 12 months. This will be a huge boost to the Cityzens, who are currently fighting for the Premier League title and UEFA Champions League crown, as the mega-rich club aim to maintain their dominance.

When asked publicly about his future and whether he will put pen to paper on a new deal, Pep refused to entertain discussions, instead insisting that he is only focused on winning European glory and the English top-flight prize. However, behind the scenes, things are almost wrapped up, with the former Barcelona boss agreeing to new terms.

Initially, there were fears that the outcome of Manchester City's UEA Champions League campaign would determine whether Pep will stay in England or not. However, that does not appear to be the case. The gaffer is reportedly "impressed and excited" by the youngsters at the club and is keen about the prospect of working with Erling Haaland, with the highly sought-after Norwegian favoring a move to the Etihad Stadium.

The other benefit of tying Pep down to a new deal is the advantage it brings in their Haaland pursuit. According to the report, the manager's future in Manchester was seen as a huge stumbling block as the Dortmund ace did not want to join the English giants only to see the Spaniard leave a year later.

Should Guardiola commit to the Premier League leaders, and as a consequence, secure the services of Haaland, then the Manchester City-Liverpool rivalry will continues for years and possibly hit even new heights.
