Not Ravindra Jadeja As Virender Sehwag Names The Player Who Can Replace MS Dhoni As CSK Captain

Former India opener Virender Sehwag has revealed the name of the player he thinks can become Chennai Super Kings' next captain. There is absolutely no denying that MS Dhoni's days as CSK captain are numbered.

In fact, Dhoni had stepped down as CSK captain just before the start of the ongoing season. CSK had appointed their star allrounder Ravindra Jadeja as Dhoni's successor. However, Jadeja failed to justify the decision as the burden of captaincy took a toll on him.

Jadeja not only failed to inspire his team to do well but also failed to do well with the bat and ball. Following a string of poor performances, the southpaw relinquished captaincy and Dhoni took charge of the team again for the remainder of IPL 2022. However, it looks highly unlikely that the wicketkeeper-batsman would lead the team next season. And as CSK look to find the right candidate, Virender Sehwag has suggested that their opening batsman Ruturaj Gaikwad could be the right man.

Picking Gaikwad as Dhoni's successor, Sehwag said that the opener knows how to lead a team. Sehwag opined that Ruturaj knows how to control his emotions like Dhoni. The legendary cricketer stated that Ruturaj could go on to become a long-term captain for CSK if he plays a few more seasons for the franchise. Gaikwad has become an integral part of the team. Last year, he was the highest run-scorer in IPL and played a crucial role in CSK's triumphant campaign.

'He captains Maharashtra. He plays very quietly. It's like even if he scored a century, it won't show in his mannerisms. Even if he scores a 0, you will see the same demeanour. It doesn't appear from his face if he is happy about scoring a hundred or sad about getting out for a duck. He has control, he is calm. He has all the qualities needed to be a good captain. He is captaining in First-Class cricket so he has an idea how to dictate a match. Who is to be given the ball, what needs to change in the batting order. he has the idea,' Sehwag said on Cricbuzz.

'Anyone can have one good season, but if he plays 3-4 more seasons, he will become a captain who can become a long-term captain after MS Dhoni. Why does the world consider MS Dhoni a good captain? Because he is cool, takes his own decision and uses his bowlers and batters well. He also has the luck factor. Luck favour those who are brave and MS Dhoni is a brave captain. He has all the qualities of MS Dhoni, except one. I'm not sure about the luck factor,' added Sehwag.

Talking about the ongoing season, CSK are already out of the playoffs race. The four-time winners are currently languishing at the ninth spot in the points table with 4 wins from 12 games. CSK would be looking to finish the season on a high by winning their remaining league games.
