Barcelona and Manchester United have reportedly reached an agreement on how much the latter must pay to secure the service of Frenkie de Jong. According to multiple accounts by the media in the UK and Spain, the 25-year-old Dutch midfielder is yet to assent to the move but might be forced to give the Red Devils his 'yes' due to Barca's stance.
Frenkie de Jong has emerged as priority signing for Manchester United who are set for a new era under Erik ten Hag. The latter worked together with the Barca midfielder during his days at Ajax and is keen on reuniting with the player whom many reckon could be key to new project at Old Trafford. On Thursday, ESPN reported that De Jong had said 'No' to Manchester United after he was personally called by Ten Hag. The 25-year-old Dutchman is said to be keen on playing in the Champions League next season and, as a result, does not fancy a move to join his former boss at Old Trafford.
Nevertheless, there has seemingly been a twist to the development, with Barcelona reportedly reaching a compromise in their purported talks with Man Utd for De Jong. Recent speculations revealed that the Catalans were eager to part ways with the former Ajax man for a fee in the region of £75m, but there is a general belief that a reduction has been accepted as per the account of Spanish publication Carpetas.
With an agreement reportedly in place, it remains to be seen if De Jong will have a change of heart and proceed to leave Camp Nou. The potential departure of player is expected to boost the financial standing of the club with their struggles from past seasons still lingering.
Meanwhile, Spanish journalist Gerard Romero says Manchester United have told Frenkie de Jong that they won't wait much longer for him to make a decision on his future. The club has told the player to make his stance clear in order to move onto other players targeted for the upcoming transfer window. The Premier League club is believed to be keeping tabs on Wolves midfielder Ruben Neves should the move for De Jong fall apart.
